How it works
What we do when you press “Check now”
Plain words, no magic. The whole method fits on this page.
- Step 1
We ask what your customers ask
“Best dentist in Austin?” — sent to ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Perplexity with your city set, several times, exactly as a local customer would ask.
- Step 2
You see who AI recommends — and why
The names it gives, how often, and the exact web pages it built the answer from. If you are missing from those pages, you are missing from the answer.
- Step 3
You fix it, and watch it change
Quick wins, a Fix-It Kit that writes the fixes for you, and AI Watch that re-asks every 14 days and tells you the day the answer moves.
The engines
Three engines, three official routes
ChatGPT
OpenAI’s API with web search on and the location set to your city — the same answer path as the ChatGPT app.
Google AI Mode
Google AI Mode results, delivered through a licensed search-data provider with your city as the location.
Perplexity
Perplexity’s own API, which answers from live web search with citations.
The score
What the Visibility Score means
0 to 100. For every scored question we compute how often you were named across the samples (0 to 1). Questions are weighted by how customers ask: discovery questions (“best X in Y”) count 3, others 2, and direct questions about your own business are never scored. The score is the weighted average, times 100.
Per engine is the same maths on one engine’s answers. Consistency is the share of questions where every sample agreed — a low number means the answer is unstable, which is itself useful to know.
Share of voice counts every business named across the scored answers and gives each its share, so you see who AI actually sends customers to.
Citation-Gap lists the web pages the engines cited while answering, how many answers cited each, and whether your business appears on that page — checked by reading it, when the page allows that.
What we do
- Ask the questions customers actually type: “best dentist in Austin”, “dentist near me open Saturday”, “X vs Y”
- Ask each question two to three times, because AI answers vary
- Record every source the engine cited while answering
- Ask about your business directly and compare the answer with the facts you gave us
- Score frequencies, and show the consistency instead of hiding it
What we don’t
- Scrape a chat window or pretend to be a user
- Show anyone else’s business by name in the public Index
- Invent a testimonial, a logo wall or a number we did not measure
- Promise a ranking: AI answers are probabilistic, and we say so on every report
